Identification and Confirmatory Method for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) using HPLC/MS/MS Analysis

Tel: 604-6533888 ext 2208 Fax: 604-6570017 E-mail: [email protected] Abstract As a consequence of the abused of human chorionic gonadotropin αhCG) by male athletes, a reliable detection method for βhCG is highly desired in sport testing. hCG is misused by male athletes to stimulate endogenous secretion of testosterone, which led to the ban of the hormone by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1987. The present study demonstrated mass spectrometric characterization of hCG. The feasibility of tryptic peptides of hCG as marker were investigated. The fingerprints of peptides which reveal in their amino acid sequences were obtained to provide an unequivocal identification and confirmation of hCG. It is through this technique that 63% and 91% respectively of the amino acid sequence of alphaand beta-subunit of hCG were determined.
